HISTORY
The Chile Ice and Inline Hockey Federation was founded and it joined the IIHF in 2000. It was the third South American nation to join the IIHF.
The team formed by Monica Arias (President of the Federation) made it's debut in international ice hockey competition at the 2017 Pan American Tournament which was held in Mexico City, Mexico from the 5th through the 11th of June 2017. The first game on 5 June 2017, was a loss to Argentina "A" 26–0. The second game came against the would-be champions of the tournament, Mexico "A", losing 17–0. The third game created a number of milestones for the Chilean squad. Registering their first win. The first goal and eventual game-winner was scored by the Chilean captain, Carlos Valdebenito Jr., who scored 3 goals & adding 2 assists totaling 5 points in the 6–0 victory over Brazil "B". Chilean goalkeeper, Leonidas Aceitón, recorded the shutout. Unfortunately, the team suffered several injuries in the first three games of the tournament and having travelled with only 8 skaters and 1 goalie, Chile was given permission by the tournament organizers to use players from other countries. Players from Mexico & Brazil joined the squad in the 4th game onwards. The fourth game was a hard-fought 4–3 victory over Argentina "B". The fifth game turned in a 6–0 loss to Colombia (A). The history of Chilean hockey isn't very old but since its inception, the Chilean hockey family has been steadily growing as the torch is being continuously passed to new generations of players. The foundation and the growth for the future of Chilean hockey has been established through its representation at the LATAM Cup in Coral Springs, Florida these past several years.

LATAM Cup 2025- Chile was represented by 5 teams at this year's tournament. They were the U12, U16, Women's D2, Men's D2 and Men's D3. Both men's teams were much improved. D3 went 0-4 in a dramatically improved D3 division. D3 competed and battled all the way and improved every game. D2 was the team that exploded on the scene with impressive wins over old rival Argentina as well as the Panthers Warriors and Venezuela. They then beat Lebanon in the semi finals to get to the gold medal game. D2 lost to Greece in the gold medal game, 3-2 in an exciting 7 overtime thriller. The U12's, U16's and the Women's D2 all had very tough tournaments against very talented teams. Although they were outmatched, they showed up and competed in every game.

LATAM Cup 2024- Chilean ice hockey was represented in 2024 by the Men's D2, Men's D3 and U16 teams. Both men's teams came out of pool play with 2-1 records. D2 had wins against Colombia and Mexico with a loss against Egypt. D3 had wins against Pakistan and Brazil with a loss against Mexico. Both men's teams qualified for the medal round. D3 lost to a very solid Team Central America and D2 lost to an extremely explosive Team Algeria. Central America and Algeria would both go on to win the gold medals in their respective divisions. The Chilean D2 team did show however, how talented and explosive they could potentially be. The U16's were very competitive in most of their games with their win coming over Team HPOC. They represented Chile well and played with a determination that makes the Chilean program proud.

LATAM Cup 2026- Although none of the 4 Chilean teams in the LATAM Cup medaled in 2026, Chile represented itself well and competed wearing the Chilean jersey with pride. The women's team and the U12 team played with extreme heart. The Men's +35 competed well in the new +35 division with close losses to Team Caribbean, Brazil and Italy and a victory against Pakistan. The D2 team showed that they were still a very good team with close losses to Egypt and Brazil and victories against Colombia and Algeria.
As we look to the future with excitement, we hold on with respect and appreciation to the past, to all the players and traditions that have come before us. We all hold a great pride in having been able to compete and represent Chile while being blessed with the opportunity to wear the Chilean jersey. The future looks bright as we always remember "Chi-chi-chi le-le-le, Viva Chile!".
